Dial-Up Connection Setup with Windows Dial-Up Networking1. First, click the Start button on the desktop task bar and point to Programs. 2. On the next list point to Accessories, then click on Dial-Up Networking. (If this shortcut is not be available on the Program list, try double-clicking on My Computer on the desktop. Then, double-click the icon for Dial-Up Networking.) The Dial-Up Networking (DUN) window opens. 3. Next, double-click on the Make New Connection icon to activate the Dial-up Networking setup wizard. 4. When asked for Name, type in "I680NORTH" to clearly identify it. 5. Check the modem selected to be sure it is the one that you are using. If it is not, click the scroll arrow on the right and select your modem. (If your modem is not listed, check to be sure the modem and modem software are installed on your computer.) 6. Click on the Next button. The next screen asks for phone number information as shown below. 7. For Area Code type in the area code you use. 8. Press the tab key or click on the Phone Number box. Type in the "Local Access" number for your area code. To find the number closest to you, ask your sales representative or visit our Dial-Up page. 9. Make sure the right country is selected (United States of America (1)) then click on Next. 10. Click on the Finish button. Your new setup or "connection" is saved under the name you gave it in step #3 (I680NORTH) to the Dial-up Networking Program Group. To verify this open the DUN window. 11. Click right mouse right button on the new connection "I680NORTH" icon in the Dial-Up Networking folder. 12. Select "Properties". Properties window opens. 13. Press "Server types" tab on the top. 14. Check "Type of Dial-Up Server" field. It should be set up to PPP. If not, select "PPP" by clicking the scroll arrow on the right.
15. In "Advanced Options" section "Enable software compression" box should be checked. If not, check it. 16. In "Allowed Network Protocols" section "TCP/IP" box should be checked. If not, check it. 17. Press "OK" button to finish set-up. Congratulations! Your new setup (connection) "I680NORTH" is ready to use.
To use the new setup (connection) just created: 1. Double-click on the new "I680NORTH" icon in the Dial-Up Networking folder. 2. Next, the "Connect To" window appears. 3. For "Username" enter your assigned Username in lower case. NOTE: Even if the box is not wide enough to display your entire username, you can enter it and view it by using your arrow keys. 4. For "Password" enter your assigned Password. Note that Password is case sensitive! You also may check option "save password", but we do NOT recommend it due to security reasons.
